Cosmetic Fillings
At EBDG we use a composite resin filling material for most fillings. Gone are the days of the ugly silver amalgam fillings. We can match the natural colour of a tooth so that it is barely noticeable.
Composite fillings are a mix of resins and plastic materials and can be used on front and back teeth. After the tooth is prepared layers of the material are set with a special light. Once the cavity is filled the restoration can be shaped and polished.
Ionomers fillings are more fragile than composite fillings and again are tooth coloured.
Generally these fillings are done where there is no biting pressure such as close to the gum. This filling material will release a small amount of flouride to help strengthen the enamel.
Amalgam fillings (silver coloured)
We no longer use amalgam as we find composite fillings more aesthetic.
